Vaccination Tracking System (VTS) for the Nigerian Ministry of Health, World Health Organization Country Office and the GPEI Partners
The continued transmission of Wild Polio Virus and poor coverage of Oral Polio Vaccination (OPV) during Immunization Plus Days (IPDs) is now a threat to Global Polio Eradication program. Among other factors, performance of vaccination team and failure to locate missing children are considered a major problem in planning and implementation of IPD in eight high risk states of Northern Nigeria.
The use of GIS maps and GPS tracking has been identified as a valuable tool to locate settlements, help prepare microplans and to monitor the activity of vaccination teams.
The objectives of the project are to:
The Vaccination Tracking Systems (VTS) is made of 3 main components:
Tracking Phone:
The VTS Tracker is an Android application deployed on more than 5000 phones carried by Vaccinator teams during vaccination campaign. This application records the GPS tracks in a SQLite database.
Laptops:
The Laptop application is a Windows application developed with Microsoft WPF 4.0 and an MS SQL 2008 R2 database. Mapping functionality has been implemented with ArcGIS 10.1 Runtime for WPF.
The application is deployed on 30 laptops on the fields. It sends tracks to the EOC using GSM data network.
EOC application:
The EOC application is an ASP.Net 4.0 application using ESRI Javascript API and ArcGIS Server 10.1 to produce maps.
Novel-T has implemented the 3 components. The project started in January 2010 and as of June 2013 has required more than 20 man/months of development. Novel-T developed numerous ArcMap 10.1 toolboxes and designed the Geo data management processes to field collect and maintain all settlements geographical information into a central “Gold” database.
We would like to hear from you.
